Two GMCs Named Top Safety Picks

The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) has recently named two GMC vehicles Top Safety Picks for 2011. Within the midsize SUV: the GMC Terrain. And, within the large SUV category: the GMC Acadia.

To earn these prestigious designations, the GMC Terrain and the GMC Acadia had to demonstrate perfect "Good" scores in four distinctive test categories. These include: frontal offset, side impact, rear crash, and roof strength (recently added). In addition, all winning vehicles must be equipped with electronic stability control, which comes as a standard safety feature on both models.

GMC Going With Granite

GMC is looking for a little brother to the GMC Acadia - they may have found it in Granite, a concept that first appeared at the 2010 North American International Auto Show.

Shortly after it debuted, Motor Trend reported GMC would produce the boxy car. Shortly thereafter, a retraction was issued. There would be no Granite from GMC.

Buick Achievers Scholarship Program

This is a human interest story you've got to read. With an emphasis on disadvantaged students the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program is giving out $2,000 a year to 1,000 deserving college-bound students. And, that's just the tip of the iceberg. The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program will award an additional 100 "national scholarships" in the amount of $25,000 each to especially exceptional students. Speaking on the Program, Dan Akerson, Chief Executive, GM said, "It's going to be one of the largest scholarship programs in the U.S."
